PHIL-AM WAR IN ILOILO

The Phil-Am War in Iloilo traces its beginning to around December 13, 1898, when Gen. Rios declared his intention of leaving Iloilo and transferring to Zamboanga.

This prompted the foreign merchants in Iloilo to write a petition to Otis, requesting that American troops be sent to Iloilo to relieve the Spanish troops, and to occupy Iloilo, for their protection. Otis received this petition on December 13, 1898.

Miller's expedition was sent on December 26, 1898, and arrived in Iloilo on December 28, 1898, but it failed to disembark until February 11, 1899.

On February 11, 1899, fighting started when Miller landed on Iloilo City.

On February 12, 1899, two battalions of the 18th U.S. Infantry also occupied Jaro.

The Estado Federal de Bisayas immediately transferred its capital to Cabatuan, Iloilo that same day, February 12, 1899. Cabatuan remained the capital of the Estado Federal de Bisayas, and then the Politico-Militar Government of Gen. Martin Delgado y Bermejo, until November 23, 1899 when the town was captured by Gen. Hughes.
