FROM BAROTAC VIEJO TO NICOLAS ROSES, SEPTEMBER 16, 1900

Exhibit 1296.

[Original in Spanish. L.S. P.I.R., 1042.2.]

SEPTEMBER 16, 1900.

Sr. NICOLAS ROSES,

DEAR SIR: The object hereof is to inform you that the American commander is offering me ten "Remington" rifles for the protection of the town. I inform you hereof to ascertain whether it is advisable to accept them without the town becoming responsible to the Americans and at the same time I ask your advice as a friend; assure me that the town will run no risk from our troops in accepting the said offer.

Your affectionate friend,

(Signature illegible.)

BAROTAC VIEJO, [PANAY] September 16, 1900.
