MATUGUINAO GENERAL MEETING, CHAIRED BY BASILIO DIAZ, JANUARY 3, 1901

Exhibit 1340.

[Original in Spanish. D.S. P.I.R., 89l.2.]

In Matuguinao [Samar] the third day of January, nineteen hundred and one.

The most prominent residents assembled in a general meeting under the Chairmanship of Seņor Basilio Diaz, for the purpose of providing, even though provisionally, quarters for the Government of this province, as also the subsistence department, arsenal, ammunition, town hall, church, cock pit; all the residents were obliged to build their respective houses for the purpose of improving the town, as all the houses were reduced to ashes on the 6th of December of last year to prevent the enemy from stationing a detachment therein; and the heads of the barrios were also obliged to take three persons of their respective barrios to the town hall Monday of each week for the purpose of discharging such services of an important character required by the Government which we heroically defend, for we fight for our ideal which is the liberty and independence of our beloved country; and by virtue of the General Meeting held we unanimously resolved that without any excuse whatsoever all those above mentioned shall be absolutely bound. The proceedings were closed and a duplicate was made of this act which was signed the date above written.
